Grandpa's poem

Grandpa:  Thomas Caudle Deese
“Puddin’ doll,”
“Now, ain’t that sharp?”
“Amazing Grace”
On the old Jews harp

The cow and the cat
In the old gray barn
We’d laugh every time
At that old yarn

What happened to the eggs
That mornin’ when
‘Stead of usin’ the gate
He climbed through the fence!

“X number”
Of whatever it was –
The days or the miles
The years or the cost.

“Deese Moving Company” –
Need a hand?
Just give us a call –
We’re sure in demand!

Building the house
Five hundred at a time
Hang the door to move in
Yep, it works just fine!

“Boogety, boogety, boogety” –
Somethin’ ran away.
He’d laugh and remember
The good ol’ days

Meetin’ Grandma --
Fallin’ fast
‘Sposed to catch the bus --
Missed all but the last

The trip to be married
On April Fool’s Day
The year 1940
The adventure on the way

The clerk of the company
Too close to the fight
These beds were the Germans’
Just last night!

“Hon, we love ye,
Come back when ye can”
Pattin’ your back
With a gentle brown hand.

“Oh, strip – PIECING!”
Photography class
Everything’s more fun
With just a little laugh.

Need to tie that in –
Let me fix this knot.
How many pieces
Of string have I got?

Something happened –
Better write it down.
No matter how silly
Or small it sounds!

The CCC’s
In ‘34
Good times to remember
Forevermore.

The smile in his eyes
The tears in his voice
Talkin’ ‘bout the old days
And the good ol’ boys.

A big bite of a candy bar --
The PX was closed on Saturday night
“You got another one, Deese?”
“If the price is right!”
Grandpa’s nappin’
But he opens one eye
A small child giggles
And can’t stay shy

“Farmer Gal”
“Sugar Boy”
Grandpa, Husband, Father, Friend
Grandpa sure brought us lots of joy.
